This project will strengthen Makerere University’s Health and Demographic Surveillance Site (HDSS) to become a stronger research support platform for community-based research, and for research training for students and members of staff at Makerere University and other stakeholders.
A plan to transform the legal status and organizational structure of the HDSS is currently under review, and final approval is expected by early 2015. The primary objectives over the coming funding phase will be:
- To strengthen the organizational and staffing structure, improving current procedures and introducing operating procedures and guidelines;
- To improve data quality generated by the site through a transition from manual to digital field data capture, and improvement of the data management procedure;
- To diversify the sources of funding through the creation of a research grants management capacity for diversification research grants sources and research activities;
- Improve knowledge translation from research evidence to policy.
